Tommy — Tarm Cap

Behind Tarm Cap

Tommy has been growing mushrooms for years — first as a hobby, then with increasing seriousness as he realized how difficult it was to find clean, reliable spawn. Too many orders arrived contaminated or mislabeled. Too many "gourmet" dried mushrooms turned out to be powdered filler.

He started producing his own spawn out of necessity, dialed in the sterile technique, and eventually had friends and fellow growers asking to buy from him. Tarm Cap is that operation formalized.

Tarm Cap is a small mycology operation based in the Sierra Nevada foothills of California. We produce grain spawn, liquid cultures, agar plates, and dried gourmet and functional mushrooms. The focus is straightforward: clean technique, documented genetics, and consistent results batch after batch.

Every product is made using pressure sterilization and laminar flow technique. Cultures are isolated on agar with documented lineage — each batch is tracked by culture ID, generation, and date. Species currently in rotation include lion's mane, blue oyster, pink oyster, golden oyster, shiitake, and reishi. The operation maintains a contamination rate below 2%.

This is a quality-first operation, optimized for consistency rather than volume. The goal is to produce spawn and dried fungi that perform reliably, whether you're a home grower inoculating your first bag or a small farm scaling up production.
